Three Thematic Maps
Choropleth Map
Categorizes different areas usually by shading them different colors.
This map shows the amount of people per square mile throughout China. All of the different regions have different amounts of people. As you can see by the key, the different colors represent the amount of people in that area.
Dot Map
A single dot may represent a single occurrence of something or a group of something.
This map shows where Buddhist temples are in China. A small circle represents one temple, a large circle represents 45 temples.

Isoline Map
These maps use line symbols to show a continuous distribution.
This map shows the elevation above sea level in China. The different elevations are represented by different colors.
